ALK Positive Inc, (“ALKPositive”) values you and recognizes that privacy is important to you.  This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose personal information when you use our website and associated services and tells you how to contact us.  

The type of personal information we collect 

We currently collect and process the following information:

First name, last name, email address, information relating to your health (for example if you are taking part or attending an event for health and safety purposes, as well as where you share your experience of cancer with us) and any other personal information you provide to us. 

We only collect information about you to the extent there is a clear reason for us to do so, for example, asking for health information if you are attending an event and need accommodation for physical or catering services, or where you make it public or volunteer it to us – for example if you provide health information in an event while asking a question.  

Lawful bases for processing personal information

We will collect personal information from you only (1) where the personal information is necessary to provide a charitable donation; (2) where the processing is in our legitimate interest and not overwritten by your rights (as explained below), (3) where we have your consent to do so (such as sending you information about ALK+ cancer when you have requested it or using it to provide you helpful content in newsletters and events), (4) to understand how we can improve our services and information to our members, (5) to further our charitable objectives, (6) to administer our online presence, audit, troubleshoot, perform data analysis, research, generate statistics and surveys related to our technical systems, (7) generate analysis of our event attendees and newsletter recipients, and (8) carry out fraud prevention and money laundering checks.  In some cases, we will have a legal obligation to collect personal information from you such as where it is necessary to use your donation history to complete our financial and tax obligations under the law.

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

to keep you up to date on the work of ALKPositive;

to alert you to new research relevant to ALK+ cancer;

to alert you to charitable campaigns by ALKPositive;

to communicate with you about charitable gifts to ALKPositive;

to understand your interest in topics at our events and newsletters; or

to make you aware of speakers and events relevant to ALK+ cancer.

We may share this personal information with third party service providers in order to provide our services, such as credit card processing.  We do not sell your personal information.

Your rights and choices

You have certain rights and choices with respect to your personal information:

- if you no longer wish to receive information about ALK+ research, speakers, and events, you can unsubscribe by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in the email.  Please note that if you choose to unsubscribe from or opt out of these emails, we may still send you important transactional related messages from which you will not be able to unsubscribe.  

Certain regions provide residents with additional rights relating to personal information.  These additional rights vary but may include the ability to:

 - request a copy of your personal information

 - request information about the purpose of the processing activities

 - delete your information

 - object to our use of or disclosure of your personal information

 - restrict the processing of your personal information

In addition to the above rights, you may have the right to complain to a data protection authority about our collection and use of your personal information.  However, we encourage you to contact us first so we can do our best to resolve your concern.  You may submit your request to us by using the Contact Us section.

California residents may exercise the following rights:

  • Request disclosure of personal information disclosed for the purposes of ALKPositive providing services

  • Request deletion of your personal information

ALKPositive does not sell your personal information.

Retention

ALKPositive will retain your personal information in accordance with all applicable laws, for so long as it may be relevant to fulfil the purposes set forth in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.  

Updates to Privacy Policy

ALKPositive may update this Privacy Policy in response to changes in law, technical developments, or changes in how ALKPositive does conducts its charitable organization services.  You can see when this Privacy Policy was last updated by checking the “last updated” date displayed above.
